SVP, Engineering

Job Description:

• Lead Covera Health's Engineering and Platform/IT organizations, including approximately 30 people across Engineering and AI.
• Own technology architecture, engineering standards, technical execution, day-to-day engineering delivery, technical quality, and reliability.
• Partner with the Chief Product & Technology Officer to translate product and company strategy into technical execution.
• Lead and develop engineering leaders while remaining closely involved with teams and technical challenges.
• Improve engineering effectiveness through strong technical practices, clear priorities, practical processes, and reliable, high-quality software delivery.
• Connect technology decisions to customer, product, and business needs.
• Bridge Engineering with Product, Data, AI, Clinical, Operations, Security, and other teams.
• Own architecture and standards across application development, cloud infrastructure, data platforms and pipelines, integrations, and enterprise technology.
• Ensure platforms and systems scale reliably and securely as products, customers, data sources, and partnerships grow.
• Maintain high engineering standards balancing performance, scalability, reliability, security, cost, and speed.
• Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional technology talent.
• Build a culture of ownership, sound technical decision-making, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
• Support increasingly complex data- and AI-driven products while meeting healthcare privacy, security, reliability, and quality requirements.
• Communicate technical decisions, priorities, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering teams and executive stakeholders.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges, including data pipeline issues, architectural decisions, system performance, and critical production incidents.

Requirements:

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering and technology experience, including deep technical experience building and operating complex software systems and leading engineering teams.
• Experience leading engineering teams and engineering managers while remaining actively involved in technical architecture, design, and execution.
• Demonstrated success building technically strong, high-performing engineering teams with a culture of ownership, accountability, and high engineering standards.
• Strong product instincts and demonstrated ability to connect technology strategy and execution to product, customer, and business needs.
• Demonstrated ability to partner closely with Product leadership and operate effectively at the intersection of product and engineering.
• Deep technical expertise and strong architectural judgment, with the ability and desire to remain actively involved in design reviews, technical problem-solving, and critical engineering decisions.
• Experience building, scaling, and operating large-scale, data-intensive production systems and platforms.
• Deep technical knowledge of modern software engineering, cloud infrastructure, data platforms and pipelines, integrations, security, reliability, and data architecture.
• Experience improving engineering quality, reliability, and delivery through strong technical practices, effective tooling, and practical team leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to make complex cross-functional decisions, resolve competing priorities, and create alignment across multiple teams and functions.
• Experience working with ML/AI engineering teams or overseeing products and platforms incorporating AI/ML capabilities.
• Strong track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineering leaders and talent.
• Experience operating in fast-paced startup or growth-stage environments.
• Excellent executive communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Experience building or leading modern, data-intensive technology platforms, with a strong understanding of complex data pipelines, distributed systems, and production reliability.
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical depth with leadership responsibilities, remaining close to engineering work while guiding teams and making broader technology decisions.
• Preferred: Experience at a healthcare technology or data company building modern software platforms or technically complex products using clinical, imaging, or claims data.
• Preferred: Experience with healthcare or clinical data environments, including familiarity with HL7 and/or DICOM.
• Preferred: Experience with modern data and analytics platforms such as Databricks, Spark, or similar technologies.
• Preferred: Experience with AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure.
• Preferred: Experience transitioning from a highly technical engineering environment into a leadership role at a startup or growth-stage company.
• Preferred: Experience developing engineering depth and technical leadership at a large-scale technology company, followed by engineering leadership experience in a smaller, product-focused organization.
