Staff Android Engineer, Android Platform

Job Description:

• Set technical direction for Reddit’s Android Platform
• Lead cross-team initiatives across a large, multi-team Android codebase
• Lead technical decisions to scale Reddit’s Android Platform to the next 100M+ daily active users
• Drive Developer Experience strategy to accelerate build and test cycles and improve release safety
• Architect Android Client Health and Observability foundations, including events, traces, and dashboards
• Champion AI-supercharged developer and agent workflows
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers
• Elevate engineering standards through architectural reviews, documentation, and technical guidance
• Turn ambiguous platform problems into multi-quarter roadmaps
• Align engineering partners and remain hands-on from design and implementation through rollout and adoption

Requirements:

• 5+ years software development experience with 3+ years building Android applications
• Track record of leading complex Android initiatives from problem definition through delivery and sustained adoption
• Experience setting technical direction and delivering shared platform capabilities in a large Android codebase used by multiple teams and millions of daily active users
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, Android lifecycle and concurrency, Jetpack Compose, and Kotlin coroutines
• Experience with Android platform/infrastructure work, including shared libraries or frameworks, experiments/logging, navigation, startup/session orchestration, or core networking/caching
• Strong systems thinking and hands-on problem solving
• Evidence of measurable improvements to app reliability, performance, or developer productivity
• Ability to influence without formal authority and build consensus across engineering, product, design, and data partners
• Ability to communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs clearly
• Practical experience applying AI to engineering workflows, such as code generation, refactoring, static analysis, or CI checks, with measurable benefit
