Job Description

Role

Senior Director of Software Engineering within Corporate Technology โ€“ HR & Benefits Technology responsible for owning the technology and process landscape across Global Benefits, Global Mobility, Business Travel, and Expatriate Payroll & Tax. The role leads large, cross-functional engineering organizations and vendor ecosystems to modernize legacy systems, enable end-to-end integration and automation, and embed security, compliance, and resilience into delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end technology strategy and delivery across benefits, mobility, travel, and expatriate payroll & tax, including governance of a 125+ global benefits vendor ecosystem.
  • Drive migration of U.S. pension from legacy PeopleSoft to modern, secure, cloud-native technologies while ensuring data integrity and operational stability.
  • Deliver end-to-end integration and automation of benefit data flows into and out of payroll across multiple jurisdictions, currencies, and regulatory regimes.
  • Lead Global Mobility technology integrations (e.g., Sirva) and coordinate with external providers (e.g., KPMG) and internal partners (HR, Benefits, Finance, Operations) to prioritize roadmaps.
  • Set engineering standards across custom full-stack development, serverless/cloud-native design on AWS, Infrastructure as Code, Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD for auditable, resilient deployments.
  • Embed secure-by-design and compliance-by-design practices, including automated controls, security scanning, and policy-as-code to support SOX, statutory/tax reporting, data residency, segregation of duties, and access management.
  • Direct responsible adoption of AI-enabled engineering (agentic workflows, AI-assisted development, MCP-based services) with guardrails suitable for a regulated environment.
  • Act as primary interface with senior leaders to drive consensus across risk, regulatory, operational, cost, and modernization priorities.
  • Hire, develop, and scale large cross-functional engineering teams and establish portfolio-level standards for AI-orchestrated workflows, release governance, test modernization, resilience engineering, and incident response.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience, plus 5+ years leading technologists in complex technical domains.
  • Deep experience delivering technology across benefits, payroll, mobility, or HR domains in a large, highly regulated, global enterprise.
  • Hands-on and leadership-level expertise in Java and Python on AWS, including serverless and cloud-native design patterns.
  • Full-stack capability including modern front-end development (e.g., React, TypeScript) and API-first design using GraphQL and REST.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), Pipeline as Code, and automated CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) with security and controls embedded in pipelines.
  • Proven delivery of end-to-end integration and automation between vendor systems and payroll, and experience migrating legacy platforms (e.g., PeopleSoft) to cloud with strong data integrity and controls.
  • Experience managing large vendor ecosystems and leading cross-functional teams in matrixed organizations.
  • Experience leading multi-organization adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models, governance, measurement frameworks, and secure handling of sensitive inputs/outputs.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI risk, controls, resilience, and the ability to advise senior leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and tool/function-calling backends for agentic/conversational interfaces.
  • Experience with agentic workflows and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) where approved.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and GitOps-based deployment on AWS.
  • Familiarity with Global Mobility platforms (e.g., Sirva) and expatriate payroll, travel, and tax models (e.g., KPMG).
  • Experience modernizing enterprise integrations (API-led and event-driven), interface test automation, and observability for globally distributed teams.
