Senior Engineering Manager, AI Foundations

Job Description:

• Lead AI Foundations engineering across shared AI services
• Hire and coach the engineering team
• Set technical direction, priorities, and delivery expectations
• Partner with Product and senior engineers on AI model and agent innovation
• Balance reliability, security, developer experience, and cost
• Own engineering-side vendor relationships and operational readiness
• Partner with Security, Legal, and Finance on AI governance and spend controls
• Own the “Neutral Foundations” pillar strategy and 2027 roadmap
• Drive operational excellence for AI primitives and services
• Deliver the LLM Gateway and MCP Gateway and advance model routing and evaluations
• Develop the next level of AI Foundations leadership

Requirements:

• Experience leading AI Foundations engineering, including hiring, coaching, technical direction, prioritization, and delivery across shared AI services
• Ability to balance model and agent innovation with reliability, security, developer experience, and cost
• Experience owning engineering-side vendor relationships and operational readiness
• Ability to partner with Security, Legal, and Finance on AI governance and spend controls
• Ability to establish a 2027 strategy and roadmap for the “Neutral Foundations” pillar of Coinbase’s AI Tooling Strategy
• Ability to drive operational excellence of AI primitives/services
• Experience delivering LLM Gateway and MCP Gateway and advancing model routing and evaluations
• Ability to grow the next rung of leadership on AI Foundations
