People Operations and Payroll Manager

Job Description:

• Coach managers and directors through attendance, performance, and performance improvement plan conversations
• Guide leaders on employee relations matters and strategic HR questions
• Stay current on employment law and update policies and practices
• Manage workers’ compensation and unemployment claims
• Run the drug and alcohol testing program
• Work with outside counsel as needed
• Process bi-weekly and bonus payroll, including garnishments
• Ensure payroll accuracy through audits, reporting, and proactive checks
• Answer employee questions on HR, payroll, and routine benefits
• Maintain the HRIS (Paylocity), personnel files, benefit files, and benefits updates
• Support the employee lifecycle, including welcoming new hires, terminations, exit interviews, and offboarding
• Manage HR vendor relationships

Requirements:

• Three to five years of progressive experience in HR operations, payroll, and employee relations
• Hands-on payroll processing in an HRIS such as Paylocity
• Working knowledge of employment law, including FLSA, FMLA, and ADA
• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
• HR or payroll certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, CPP, or similar) preferred
• Nonprofit or mission-driven experience preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365
• A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
• Willingness to sign the Mission’s Statement of Faith and Lifestyle
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with composure and discretion
• Critical thinking and sound judgment
• Accuracy with payroll and financial data
• Alignment with the Mission’s Statement of Faith and employee policies
