The Geometrical Mathematical Physics (GeomMPhys) Research Group at CUNEF Universidad invites expressions of interest (EoI) from early-career researchers wishing to apply for a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship with the group as a host. The EoI is intended to identify strong candidate-host matches and support selected candidates through the national AEI competition. Thus, the EoI is not itself a fellowship award or offer of employment. Instead, selected candidates will prepare the official application with their proposed GeomMPhys host. The official application is made by the host, not the candidate.
Official programme information and eligibilityJuan de la Cierva, Spanish State Research Agency (AEI):https://www.aei.gob.es/convocatorias/buscador-convocatorias/ayudas-contratos-juan-cierva-2026Researchers must submit their application between 12 and 26 November 2026. Then, the host institution will validate this submission. The application is only official after the validation by the host institution.Applicants must have orally defended their PhD between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026, subject to the extensions specified in the call.
Research environment and potential hosts GeomMPhys brings together physicists and mathematicians working at the interface of geometry, mathematical physics and theoretical physics. Most of the members of the group are based at CUNEF Universidad, with additional members at ICMAT and UNED.

Potential hosts include:
- Saskia Demulder, working on aspects of string theory and quantum systems, focussing on underlying geometric structures and the transition between integrable and non-integrable dynamics.
- Verรณnica Errasti Dรญez, whose research seeks to establish the physical viability or not of higher-derivative field theories, through analyses of dynamical stability and quantum unitarity.
- Jordi Gaset Rifร , working on geometric approaches to field theory, with a focus on identifying and understanding equivalent formulations of physical theories.
- Manuel Lainz, working on differential geometry and its applications to classical mechanics and field theory, with a focus on multisymplectic and contact geometry and the use of Lie groupoids to study symmetries and integrability.
- Alberto Ruiz-de-Alarcรณn, working at the interface of mathematical physics and quantum information theory, with research interests including emergent phenomena in quantum spin systems, topological phases and anyons, tensor networks and their symmetries, open quantum systems, mixed states and dissipative quantum dynamics, as well as Hopf algebras, quantum algebras, and operator algebras.
- David Trillo, working on foundational questions in quantum mechanics, with the aim of understanding the mathematical and physical principles underlying its structure. His research includes classical-quantum hybrid models, particularly in connection with gravity.
