Job Description & Summary

Our clients depend on expert advice when navigating tax and succession, thatโ€™s where your leadership matters most. Your expertise will help shape confident futures for privately owned businesses and families, navigating complex tax and succession challenges. As a Director, youโ€™ll play a vital role in providing tailored tax advisory and planning services that support clients throughout their business lifecycle. Youโ€™ll be working with clients across private businesses, family offices, entrepreneurs, and start-ups.

Why PwC?

At PwC Australia, your skills meet purpose. We tackle big challenges across industries like finance, technology, energy, and health, giving you the chance to make a real impact. Here, your growth is our priority. Youโ€™ll work with leading teams, explore new technologies, and unlock your full potential.

Join a global community of more than 370,000 people who value bold ideas, collaboration, and lasting change. Together, weโ€™re building trust and shaping the future.

That philosophy is brought to life in our Family Office Tax practice. Longโ€‘term advice. Complex family groups. Decisions that span generations.

Family Office tax is not about volumeโ€‘driven work or shortโ€‘term engagements. Itโ€™s about trusted enduring relationships with families who own and control significant private wealth and businesses, and guiding them through complexity, change, and generational transition.

As a Director in PwCโ€™s Family Office Tax team, youโ€™ll be a senior adviser to some of Australiaโ€™s most sophisticated private families. Youโ€™ll lead complex engagements, shape longโ€‘term client strategy, and work closely with Partners to grow PwCโ€™s Family Office capability and market presence.

This is tax leadership with context, continuity, and consequences.

What Family Office Tax Actually Looks Like

Youโ€™ll operate at the highest level of complex private groups, advising across:

  • Highly complex private group and trust tax matters, including large multiโ€‘trust and multiโ€‘entity structures, with a focus on technical risk, governance and longโ€‘term sustainability

  • Advanced trust taxation and distribution strategies, including:

  • Income and capital streaming at scale

  • Section 100A risk assessment and mitigation

  • Trustee powers, present entitlement issues and trust integrity considerations

  • Familyโ€‘owned business and investment group structuring, advising on:

  • Wholeโ€‘ofโ€‘group structuring across operating, holding and investment entities

  • Division 7A strategy, remediation and governance frameworks

  • Managing private group integrity and ATO focus areas

  • Capital gains tax and transaction leadership, including:

  • Business sales, successionโ€‘driven exits and partial divestments

  • Small business CGT concessions

  • Complex restructures, rollovers and group reorganisations (including Divisions 615, 122โ€‘A and 124โ€‘M)

  • Intergenerational wealth, succession and governance planning, working closely with legal, private advisory and family governance specialists on:

  • Ownership and control transitions

  • Family governance frameworks and decisionโ€‘making structures

  • Balancing tax outcomes, risk management and family dynamics

  • ATO engagement and tax governance leadership, including:

  • Leading ATO audits, reviews and risk reviews

  • Managing private ruling strategies and highโ€‘level technical submissions

  • Advising families navigating heightened regulatory, reputational and public scrutiny

What Makes Family Office Work Different

  • The relationships are generational: You advise families over decades, not transactions.

  • Judgement and leadership matter: Deep technical expertise must be paired with commercial insight and emotional intelligence.

  • The structures are deeply interconnected: Trusts, companies, investments, and operating businesses function as a single ecosystem.

  • The impact is lasting: Your advice influences legacy, stewardship, and longโ€‘term wealth outcomes.

This is where tax leadership becomes true trusted advisory.

Your Role as a Director

  • As a Director in the Family Office Tax team, you will:

  • Lead and oversee PwCโ€™s most significant and complex Family Office client relationships

  • Act as a senior trusted adviser to family principals, boards and key decisionโ€‘makers

  • Set longโ€‘term tax, structuring and governance strategy for private family groups

  • Provide technical leadership on the most complex and highโ€‘risk tax matters

  • Lead major structuring, succession and transaction engagements in partnership with PwC Partners

  • Own and direct ATO engagement strategies, including audits, reviews and negotiations

  • Review and approve highโ€‘judgement technical advice and client deliverables

  • Develop and mentor Senior Managers and future leaders within the practice

  • Contribute to market profile, thought leadership and growth of PwCโ€™s Family Office offering

  • Support Partner group initiatives and play an active role in shaping the future direction of PwC Private

What We Are Looking For

  • Extensive experience in family office private tax, business or corporate tax at a senior leadership level

  • Deep expertise advising complex private groups, trusts and familyโ€‘owned businesses

  • Proven ability to lead large, highโ€‘risk engagements and senior client relationships

  • Strong technical authority across trust taxation, CGT, Division 7A and private group integrity

  • A strategic, commercial mindset with the ability to navigate family, governance and reputational considerations

  • A passion for leadership, mentoring and building a marketโ€‘leading Family Office practice

What youโ€™ll gain:

  • Leadership development programs and executive coaching designed to help you inspire teams and accelerate your career growth.

  • A culture valuing diverse perspectives, empowering leaders to drive innovation and collaboration, learn more about our commitment to Inclusion and Diversity and First Nations Prosperity

  • A world-class parental leave policy offering up to 26 weeks of leave for caregivers, supporting your family and personal life.

  • Flexibility means trusting you to choose when, where, and how you work, balancing whatโ€™s best for you, your team, and your clients to grow and thrive together.

  • Being part of a community united by purpose, delivering impact that reaches clients, communities, and the future youโ€™re shaping.
